Your Tax Dollars at Work. No, Really!

February 28, 2011

Dear Congress,

I don’t ask for much. I live quietly, I take care of myself, I donate to charities, I work hard and save my money. I don’t expect to see a dime of the funds I have paid into Social Security and Medicare when I retire, because I know that money is already all gone. It’s okay, I’ll probably get by without going on the dole, even thought my 401(k) is not nearly what it used to be…

But since you’re looking for ways to cut spending here and there, I hereby request three small cuts. Oh, I know they won’t make much difference to our bottom line, but really, these are things that our tax dollars should never have funded in the first place.

#1: Defund Planned Parenthood

#2: Defund public broadcasting

#3: Stop using our money to rebuild and shore up mosques both here and abroad. I mean, after all, isn’t separation of church and state one of those bedrock standards the liberals hoist up every time a kid says a brief “Thank you, Father” after a touchdown at the school football game? Or if someone wants to include that icky “under God” part of the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag? So why on earth are we spending close to a billion dollars on shoring up mosques in Egypt, Cyprus, Tadjikstan, Mali, and who knows where else?

So please… just stop doing that.

Oh, and by the way; remember November, 2010? November 2012 is rapidly approaching. I’m just saying.

Yours very sincerely,

ObamaCare to Fund Abortions… So What?

August 18, 2009

I’ve seen a lot of righteous indignation at the idea that President Obama’s healthcare plans will fund abortions with taxpayer money. And the fact is crystal clear that ObamaCare will do just that. After much hemming and hawing and backing and filling from both the White House and a complicit press corps, Peter Orszag, the White House Budget Director, admits as much, as he says he’s not “prepared to rule it out.” Right. And we all know what that means.

But it’s no use getting our knickers in a twist over this plan in particular. It’s just another bucketful of our money, after all. In truth, the sad fact is that hundreds of millions our taxpayer dollars already go to fund abortions, and have done so for years. Last year alone, Congress gave Planned Parenthood $350 million (34% of their annual revenue), and if 2008 is any indicator, our funding this year will allow them to perform in excess of 300,000 abortions in 2009.

Sadly, whether we like it or not, our taxes will continue to pay for abortions, whether ObamaCare flourishes or withers on the vine. Last month Congress voted down a measure to strip Planned Parenthood of its taxpayer funding. Mike Pence (R-IN), who authored the unsuccessful measure, says he will keep fighting:

“How the federal government spends taxpayer money says a great deal about who we are as a nation. Federal spending should reflect the cherished values of an overwhelming majority of American taxpayers. Even pro-choice advocates oppose taxpayer funding of abortion and it is morally wrong to commit the tax dollars of pro-life Americans to promoting or performing abortions at home and abroad. It is deeply disturbing that this Democrat Congress just defeated the will of a strong majority of the American people who oppose federal funding for abortion.

“While our Democrat colleagues talk about their desire to reduce abortions, today’s vote suggests otherwise. You can’t reduce abortions by funding abortion providers with taxpayer dollars.”

If you don’t want your tax dollars going to fund abortions, forget about ObamaCare for the time being. Start with the measure that’s been in place for years; work to de-fund the organization that continues to get our money, continues to perform abortions, continues to flout the law, and continues to give illegal advice to young girls in need of real help.

If you really want to stop your dollars from funding abortions, de-fund Planned Parenthood.

Planned Parenthood Covers Up Statutory Rape… Again

July 23, 2009

In her latest expose, Lila Rose of LiveAction goes undercover in Birmingham, AL. Visiting a Planned Parenthood center, she poses as a 14-year-old seeking an abortion after having sex with her fictitious 31-year-old boyfriend.

Sadly, the results are just about what we’ve come to expect from Planned Parenthood: (note: YouTube has removed this video due to “terms of use” violation. See end of post for updated info)

LiveAction gave the unedited tape to Alabama’s Attorney General’s office, and according to Firm Foundation, the Jefferson County Sherrif’s office gave the following statement after having seen the video:

“Anyone who sees that should be disturbed by it, and I hope they’re disturbed by it. For a 31 year old to have sex with a 14 year old, that is rape in the second degree. I think they are not only morally obligated to report it – the law requires them to report it, and there could be some serious consequences otherwise”

Alabama state law defines two levels of statutory rape:

  • § 13A-6-61: First-degree rape for someone age 16 or older to have sexual intercourse with someone under age 12. Penalty: Life in prison or between 10 and 99 years
  • § 13A-6-62: Second-degree rape for someone age 16 or older to have sexual intercourse with someone between age 12 and 16, when the actor is at least two years older.  Penalty: Two to 20 years in prison

Once again I wonder why we give our tax dollars to an organization which so brazenly flouts laws that exist to keep our children safe. (Note: Planned Parenthood receives nearly $300 million from federal and state governments annually.)

Previous posts about Lila Rose and the Mona Lisa Project can be seen here, here, and here.

UPDATE: Commenter Xfomred points out that YouTube has yanked the video due to “terms of use” violation. (See LiveAction’s response here.) So here’s a FoxNews video of Laura Ingraham covering the story:

Planned Parenthood Fails Our Daughters Again

March 18, 2009

It seems like just last month that the Planned Parenthood office in Tucson was in the news for committing crimes by abetting a 15-year-old girl get an abortion behind her parents’ back, with full knowldege that the father was 27 years old.

Oh yeah, it was! Much to nobody’s surprise, Planned Parenthood in Arizona not only did nothing about the Tucson office abuses, it’s up to the same tricks in two offices in Phoenix.

In 2007, $300 million of your tax dollars allowed Planned Parenthood — a non-profit organization — to rake in a profit of over $100 million. They have a budget of over $1 billion (yes, that’s billion with a “B”) and they still can’t manage to obey the laws of the states in which they operate.

Yes, your money pays for young girls getting advice like that in the video above.

When are we going to stop giving our tax dollars to support this travesty? When are we going to require that they obey laws regarding statutory rape? How much is finally enough?

Spread the word; share this video; protect your daughters.

Planned Parenthood: Epic Fail. Again

February 3, 2009

The young ladies over at the Mona Lisa Project have just released another undercover video, this one from a Planned Parenthood center in Tucson, AZ. Once again, it seems that the clinic is complicit in covering up a felony. This time the scenario is a 15-year-old girl who is 10 weeks pregnant by her 27-year-old boyfriend.

The advice she gets is on how to avoid having to tell her parents, how to dress appropriately for an appearance with a judge for a parental notification waiver, and most of all, NOT to bring the boyfriend to support her during the “procedure.”

I wonder whose head will roll who will be suspended for a few weeks this time.

More Illegal “Advice” from Planned Parenthood

December 16, 2008

Earlier this month I posted a video created by the Mona Lisa Project in which a young woman posing as a pregnant 13-year-old visits a Planned Parenthood office in Bloomington, IN. Despite that fact that sex with a 13-year-old girl is considered statutory rape, the clinic worker didn’t just skirt the law, she deliberately broke it. In pieces. The worker was suspended for an unspecified length of time, and Betty Cockrum, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood in Indiana released a statement which said, in part:

“…the apparent actions of the employee would be in violation of our strict policies and procedures. Therefore, a thorough internal investigation of this matter has begun, and the employee has been put on an immediate, unpaid suspension. Further disciplinary action will be taken if warranted by the investigation.”

Well, Ms. Cockrum ought to know what the policies and procedures are. And it might be wise if she were to ensure that the rest of her employees in Indiana were aware of said policies and procedures, because they all seem to be operating from a dramatically different playbook.

From the latest Mona Lisa Project video:

We the taxpayers give this organization hundreds of millions of dollars each year. Perhaps it’s time to cut the funding for an organization that goes out if its way to protect — not the children who seek help there, but the sex offenders preying on those children.

Bad, Illegal, No-good Advice

December 4, 2008

$300 million of your tax dollars allowed Planned Parenthood — a non-profit organization — to rake in a profit of over $100 million last year. They have a budget of over $1 billion (yes, that’s billion with a “B”) and they still can’t manage to obey the laws of the states in which they operate.

Yes, those tax dollars pay for 13-year-old girls getting advice like this:

MIchelle Malkin has covered this blatantly illegal behavior here and here. The Planned Parenthood employee involved has been suspended for an unspecified time, according to a write-up in the local Bloomington newspaper here.

I’m just speechless. This kind of behavior ought to be unthinkable, and yet I have a sneaking suspicion that it happens all too often. What are we doing to our children?
