Exit with Dirge

Major Garret over at the National Journal points out five new truths that he sees evolving from the debt deal.

1. A new precedent.
2. Bipartisan entitlement protection lives on.
3. Congress’s back-loading of spending cuts lives on.
4. Speaker John Boehner wobbled but didn’t fall.
5. The first quarter of 2013 will be a doozy.

He makes each point well, and based on the bare bones of his commentary, I’d say nobody won this time around, especially not our children and grandchildren.

I think Will Shakespeare may have been prescient when he said:

“The weight of this sad time we must obey,
“Speak what we feel, not what we ought to say.
“The oldest have borne most; we that are young
“Shall never see so much, nor live so long.”

Exeunt with a dead march.

    I disagree with Garret.

Boehner folded like a cheap suit. Obama played “Chicken” with him and Boehner clearly lost:

The “cutbacks in spending” aren’t reducing our deficit one bit. Not in one year, nor in 10.

It’s like someone who has $5000 and wants to by a new car. He WAS going to buy a new Chrysler 300 Hemi, but that would cost $32,000 which would require he borrow $27,000. But his wife tried to talk him into buying a $5000 used car, citing a need to, “Spend within our means and not build up more debt.”

So the guy goes out and buys a new Ford Fusion for $26,000 which means he only has to borrow $21,000 instead of the $27k note he’d have needed to buy the Chrysler. In HIS eyes, he CUT BACK SPENDING by $6,000, but he’s still leaving his family with an additional $21,000 in debt.

How is THIS doggy-doo legislation any different? Answer: It’s NOT. This is NOT what the Tea Party sent Boehner and others into office to do. If THIS is the best we can do, I give this country 4 to 5 years tops. And THAT’S only because I’m an optimist.

If Boehner represents the best the Republican Party has to offer, Something amazing will happen next year: Obama will go down in history as the WORST President who did the MOST damage to the US Economy, Free-Enterprise System, and caused the most massive economic debacle in the country’s history, resulting in historic levels of unemployment… and then got re-elected.

Anyone know if Canada is still allowing emigration from the US?

Gerry, I think you nailed it. My only carp with you is that it was unfortunate for you to compare this legislation to “doggy-doo”… an undeserved rap on our “best friend’s” excrement, which on the worst day doesn’t smell as bad as what passes for work in our capitol.
Hell, if Canada has any sense, they’ll shore up their southern border immediately. The northward surge is going to make the invasion of our southern border look positively puny.

By the way, Stoutcat, your use of the Shakespearean quote was very well done. Congrats to you.
