An Execution in Virgina

So here I’ll watch the night and wait

To see the morning shine,

When he will hear the stroke of eight

And not the stroke of nine…

A. E. Houseman

John Allen Muhammed, the Beltway Sniper, is sentenced to die by lethal injection tomorrow evening at nine o’clock.

The Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal. It is not expected that Virginia Governor Tim Kaine will intervene.

I’m not sure whether I should say, “Let God have mercy on him,” or “May he rot in hell.”

A little of both, I think.

UPDATE: It is done.

I am opposed to capitol punishment, not on moral grounds as a “de jure” concept. Rather on practical grounds as “de facto” the way the death penalty is administered sometimes seems contrary to any realistic concept of justice.

In this case, I believe we got it right. I will be praying for the victims and their families.

I’m opposed to being humane anymore.

Maybe I’m in a bad mood today, but I’ve just had enough.

On Fox News this morning, there was a clip about a license plate in, I believe, Arkansas, that had a simple (but religious) “+” in an upper corner along with the standard license plate number in the center. This license plate has been ruled unconstitutional.

A couple of weeks ago, a local man (Lake of the Ozarks) was arrested for sodomizing his daughter. He was living with but not married to the mother, was watching her while the mother was out, decided to watch some porn on TV, and couldn’t control his urges. When his daughter protested by crying and screaming he beat her. She’s been in intensive care but is expected to live. He’s admitted everything but the controversy is that he needs counseling vs a long prison term.
      She is five months old.

Because of political correctness, or the fear that someone might be offended, we have yet another sad occurance of innocent victims being shot and killed by yet another radical terrorist last week. I’ll bet he needs counseling.

Capitol punishment is too humane. The guilty are punished without pain, without humiliation, without suffering.

What has happened to this country?
