There was a time when humor in the entertainment world didn’t require a “victim” or a “target” of insults. There were just things that were funny and there were Jesters among us who knew just how to make you laugh without it having to be a someone else’s expense.
We lost one of those people last night. Dom DeLuise passed away in his sleep. Best known for his comic roles with actors like Burt Reynolds, DeLuise would steal every scene. I recall my laughter would start even before he hit his punch-line. One look at the cherubic face and you knew something funny was coming… and nobody was going to be hurt or insulted by it.
But his best talent was often saved for off-screen antics with friends like Reynolds who, today, said, “Dom always made you feel better when he was around and there will never be another like him. I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. I will miss him very much.”
So will anyone who loved good hard laughs from comedy without victims. Our condolences to Dom’s family.
