No MA Senate Race in LGF-Land

January 19, 2010

Conservative, liberal, Democrat, Republican, it really doesn’t matter; pretty much the topic of conversation today is the special election being held in Massachusett(e)s to fill the seat left by the passing of Ted Kennedy. It’s a real barn-burner, it is, what with a stolid, leaden Democrat candidate woefully trailing a vibrant and optimistic Republican front-runner (I know, it’s almost unbelieveable).

Television, newspapers, blogs are all covering the race with either despair or indifference (Democrat party hacks and the MSM) or breathless admiration and excitement (pretty much everyone else). Except one blog. This particular race doesn’t seem to have hit the radar on Little Green Footballs except for one open thread last night. No previous coverage (really! I searched the site for a mention of Coakley, and… nothing!).

Even the Linkviewer, that bastion of interesting posts from around the blogosphere and around the world (and these days, the only reason to visit LGF), doesn’t seem to realize that the first shot of the next American revolution is being fired this very day. The only place you’ll see it mentioned is in LGF’s blog ads. He’ll take revenue from it, but he won’t mention it. Hmmm…

I know, I know, it’s just a snaphot. But it covers eight hours’ worth of readers posting links… Is it possible that Charles has banned all mention of the race? Or his he simply biding his time, awaiting the outcome before he unleashes his mighty pen to opine and lets slip the lizards of war?

Time will tell, of course. But I thought it was interesting that the rest of the country is talking about Brown, Coakley, Massachusett(e)s, and over at LGF Charles Johnson is covering his usual Palin, global warming, and open thread topics. Yes, he’s travelling and unable to post too much. But for even the Linkviewer to be absent any mention of the race is… odd.

If It’s a Landslide, They Can’t Steal It

January 19, 2010

As more polls show that Scott Brown is expected to win handily in today’s special election in Massachusetts, please remember the 2004 governor’s race in Washington, and the more recent Senate race in Minnesota. In each of those cases, the race was close, and Dems were allowed to stall until they “discovered” enough absentee, “recounted”, and “lost” ballots (not to mention votes from dead and non-existant voters) to ensure their candidate’s wins.

Folks, if this election is a landslide for Scott Brown, then no amount of “found” ballots and no number of recounts will change it. No boxes of uncounted ballots in car trunks. No extra absentee ballots. No dead voters. Nothing. If it’s a landslide, those won’t matter.

Please. Get out and vote today. The weather’s not at its best, but don’t let that stop you.

Scott Brown ran an honest, clean, and professional campaign. He’s a good man, and will be a good Senator for us in Washington. He’s well ahead in the polls and he should win this election. Don’t let it be just another election stolen by Democrats. Get out and vote. Take your friends with you.

As Tea Party pal and blogstress extraordinaire Sissy Willis says, “If it’s not close, they can’t cheat.”

Go vote.

Jefferson’s Message To Massachusetts Voters

January 17, 2010

“I know of no safe depository of the ultimate powers of the society but the people themselves; and if we think them not enlightened enough to exercise their control with a wholesome discretion, the remedy is not to take it from them but to inform their discretion.”  – Thomas Jefferson

To the Massachusetts Voters: On Tuesday, you will vote for a new Senator to fill the vacant seat of the late Senator Edward M. Kennedy.

BE that enlightened people who Jefferson refers to above. Stand up for your conviction.

In 1775, with “The shot heard ’round the world,” it was the colonists of Massachusetts who led the Revolutionary War against tyranny and oppression from England. So it seems appropriate that it is you who have the chance to lead a new revolution against another government who are equally indifferent to our will and, if not confronted,  would lead us back to tyranny and oppression.

Unbelievably, that government is, once again, our own. The difference this time is that you can fire that first shot using the ballot of democracy… perhaps the greatest gift of our forefathers.

The stakes are these: Sending a Republican to the Senate in replacement of the current Democrat breaks the 60 seat majority currently held by Senate Democrats. It also ends the so-called filibuster-proof Senate, and would put the passage of the healthcare bill back to where it would have to be  discussed openly and not behind closed doors.

Making your decision how to vote is very simple: Compare your heritage to those currently leading our government:

  • Barack Obama, and the Democratic Congress wants a government large enough to control every aspect of our lives under the guise of “redistributing the wealth.”
  • Yet it was your own President John F. Kennedy who implored we not ask what our country can do for us, but ask what we can do for our country. In this case, we don’t need to ask. We know. What remains is simply to do it.

The free enterprise system and democracy have “done” for our country more than any other form of government on earth. It has given us a health system that is the envy of the world as witnessed by those who travel here to pay for treatment their own country denies them through socialized medicine.

It has given us the ability to make breakthroughs in such research areas as health, science, agriculture and so many other areas that have enabled us to enjoy a higher living condition than much of the world. Yet it has also enabled us to provice for those less fortunate and to provide emergency relief around the world as we are doing currently in Haiti.

Sadly, we may not be able to do any of this  in the future if we don’t get quality, and accountable representation back in positions of authority. It all can start here once again, by voting for Scott Brown. OR we can continue down the path of the “Hopeless Change” of Barack Obama’s ego-fueled socialist agenda.

The choice is yours, Massachusetts.  You made the right choice nearly 245 years ago. You have the chance to lead the way again. America is calling.

Why Obama’s Popularity is Falling

January 17, 2010

In his Jan 15, 2010 op-ed piece, Charles Krauthammer offered his explanation for President Obama’s falling ratings…

The reason for today’s vast discontent, presaged by spontaneous national Tea Party opposition, is not that Obama is too cool or compliant but that he’s too left.

While I think Dr. Krauthammer is right, I believe he missed something. Americans are tired of our elected officials lying to us. We’re sick and tired of promises made in the heat of a campaign only to be casually broken once the office is secured. In Obama’s case, here are just a few examples of his disingenuousness at best, or his premeditated lying at worst:

  • POTUS promised not to sign a bill until folks had five days to read it… Not so with SCHIP:
  • He promised to stop torture, but continues to use rendition:
  • What happened to transparency and C-Span?:
  • Back in April 2009, the White House claimed that Obama was unaware of the Tea Parties… You have got to be kidding.

And as we all know, this is just the tip of the iceberg… Consider the late night meetings, the frequent union boss visits, the bills behind locked doors (jeez, I thought Barack Obama said that the buck stops with him.)

So Dr. Krauthammer, I agree that in principle Obama is too left for America, but we can live with that. But it’s his lack of honesty that’s really galling us.

ObamaCare: Call It What It Is

January 15, 2010

Let’s call this what it really is: Re-distribution of health.

In effect, that’s the latest message coming from the White House as a desperate President Barack Obama grasps at straws to push his health care agenda down our throats once and for all. And it looks like he might just have the support he needs now.

President ”Opaque” has held a series of not-so-secret closed-door meetings in an attempt to shore up support for a combined healthcare bill that he can sign into law (presumably after we have all had a chance to read the final bill for 72 hours, of course. Just like he promised in his campaign speeches. Oh wait. A year has gone by and he hasn’t actually done that yet, has he?)

In a private meeting with union officials yesterday, Obama gave them a sweetheart deal: Union members will be exempting Union shops from having to pay the 40% tax penalty for so-called “Cadillac Health Plans.”

Wake up, folks! That poking sensation you felt on your backside was NOT your dog asking to go for a walk.  Your President is informing you:  If you’re employed by a business that is NOT run by Union thugs, your business will have to pay an additional 40% penalty for treating you so well.  For example: If your company spends $1,000,000 per year on health insurance for its employees, they will now be taxed an additional $400,000 under Obama’s healthcare plan. But if you’re a union shop? “Fuhgettaboudit!”

In short, the very healthcare program he’s putting in place to provide healthcare for all (in theory), would in fact, cause many employers to DROP their insurance because they can’t afford the penalty. The other option would be to REDUCE the level of coverage they provide for you  until it has been weakened enough to meet Obama’s approval.

Let’s call this what it really is, folks: “Re-distribution of HEALTH.”  As true a case of taxation without representation as you will ever find.

Now is the time to continue your calls, e-mails and faxes to your elected officials demanding they not pass this bill. Let them know they will be held accountable.  Do NOT rest now!

Mmm-Mmm-Mmm… Barack Hussein Obama…

Double Your Coakley, Double Your Support

January 15, 2010

From the “Things That Make You Say ‘Hmmmm’” Department

Notice the SEIU badge?

Over the past several weeks, I’ve noted that yard signs in my town are running strongly in favor of Scott Brown: in some neighborhoods by seven to one, and in my own little neck of the woods by about four to one.

This week, however, I noticed an outgrowth of Coakley signs springing up around here. I wondered what caused this; did the candidate actually deign to appear down here and shake hands? Did she hold a fund-raiser at the Kennedy Compound in Hyannisport? Are SEIU bravos running amok on Cape Cod, planting “Martha” signs whether folks want ‘em or not?

Alas, the truth is far less dramatic, although far more entertaining. It seems that Coakley support here on the Cape has found its level and it ain’t going higher. So what does an enterprising campaign staff do to make it look like their pitiful candidate has twice as many boosters as she actually has?

Why, they “suggest” that each sucker supporter who already has a yard sign displayed simply put a second sign in the yard as well. Voila! Double your support!

So in three instances this week, I’ve seen the following scenario: property line, VOTE FOR MARTHA! sign, driveway, large yard, VOTE FOR MARTHA! sign, property line.

It’s rather effective, too… at first. Lots more Martha signs visible–until you realize that there are two signs in each of the few yards that had one sign before.

Anybody else in Massachusett(e)s notice this “Double Your Martha” phenomenon?

2010′s “Caput Capitis in Rectum” Winner: Pat Robertson

Just my humble opinion… Pat Robertson gets my vote for 2010′s “Caput Capitis in Rectum” Award!

This is what gives conservatism (and Christianity) a bad name.

Martha Coakley: Liar or…

January 14, 2010

Photo of Martha Coakley witnessing assault on reporter outsid... on Twitpic

Hey, we all know what happened involving Massachusett(e)s Senator-wannabe Martha Coakley (left) and the reporter (John McCormack on sidewalk) who got roughed up by long-time Democratic insider Michael Meehan (standing center)…

As if the shot above doesn’t say it all, read Mr. McCormack’s version of the story and then watch the video. And that by itself is almost understandable – she was being followed by what must have been to her (and her minions) an annoying reporter and someone gave him a shove. To borrow from Howard Cosell, “Down goes McCormack! Down goes McCormack!” Not right, but almost understandable given the political audacity of the Left. (Define “is”.)

But here’s where the insidious part comes in. Look at the photo… Watch the embedded video in the link above… Listen to Meehan’s apology.

Last evening I was a little too aggressive in the confusion of trying to help the Attorney General get to her car and catch a flight.

Given all that, Coakley has the gall to say that, “I didn’t see what happened so I can’t say.”

So, IMHO, here are the possible explanations:

  • Coakley just likes staring at railings
  • Coakley is a moron who doesn’t have a clue as to what is going on around her
  • Our Attorney General will look away when inconvenient assault crosses her path
  • She didn’t want to get involved with a person down
  • She’s a liar

Take your pick. And for those of you in Massachusett(e)s: unless you chose A) above, think long and hard about whether you want this woman as your Senator when you vote next week.

Best Top Ten List of the Year

January 13, 2010

John Hawkins at Town Hall has come up with the very best 2009 retrospective Top Ten list I’ve seen so far.

10.  No, no. I have been practicing…I bowled a 129. It’s like — it was like Special Olympics, or something.
– Barack Obama

9.  I mean, if you think about — if you think about it, UPS and FedEx are doing just fine, right? No, they are. It’s the Post Office that’s always having problems.
– Barack Obama makes the case for socialized medicine in a rather odd fashion

8.  Before a crowd of troops holding cameras and cell phones, the president joked, “you guys make a pretty good photo op.”
– Political Punch

7.   I know, too, that Islam has always been a part of America’s story.
– Barack Obama distorts America’s history in Egypt

6.   I won.
– Barack Obama to Republicans in Congress who were trying to discuss the stimulus plan with him

5.   Chuck Todd: Khalid Sheikh Mohammed — can you understand why it is offensive to some for this terrorist to get all the legal privileges of any American citizen?
Obama: I don’t think it will be offensive at all when when he’s convicted and when the death penalty is applied to him.
– NBC Interview with Barack Obama

4.   Our friends have fought and bled and died alongside us in Afghanistan. And now, we must come together to end this war successfully. For what’s at stake is not simply a test of NATO’s credibility — what’s at stake is the security of our allies, and the common security of the world.

But taken together, these additional American and international troops will allow us to accelerate handing over responsibility to Afghan forces, and allow us to begin the transfer of our forces out of Afghanistan in July of 2011.
– Barack Obama announces the “common security of the world” of the world is at stake in Afghanistan and then sets a timeline for withdrawal a sentence later.

3.   Oprah: What grade would you give yourself, for this year?

Obama: Um, good solid B+

…Oprah: So B+, what could you have done better?

Obama: Well B+ because of the things that are undone. Health care is not yet signed. If I get health care passed we tip into A minus.
– Oprah Winfrey interview with Barack Obama

2.   But I don’t want the folks who created the mess to do a lot of talking. I want them to get out of the way so we can clean up the mess. I don’t mind cleaning up after them, but don’t do a lot of talking.
– Barack Obama

1.   The Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home. . . . What I think we know — separate and apart from this incident — is that there is a long history in their country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately, and that’s just a fact.
– Barack Obama on the arrest of his friend, Henry Louis Gates.

Sadly, you just can’t make this stuff up. Happily, however, we’ve only got three more years of this before he’s gone!

Hell In Haiti – How You Can Help

January 13, 2010

“Complete And Utter Chaos!”  - Eyewitness

Update: According to a Red Cross official, Haiti’s devastating earthquake has left an estimated 3 million people in need of emergency aid. Much of the world is putting aside political differences and rushing to help. Countries pledging their immediate support in terms of personnel, cash and supplies to Haiti include the United States, Iceland, Britain, France, Canada, Germany, China, Mexico and Venezuela.

The Face Of Haiti - Source: AP

Once again, natural disaster has brought its wrath to Planet Earth; this time it is Haiti that must bear the brunt of nature’s fury. An earthquake registering 7.0+ on the Richter scale has devastated the tiny Caribbean country. Once again, America’s heart opens to the victims. We will respond as we always do: with compassion and utter disregard for politics.

As demonstrated by the diverse countries responding, this is no time for politics. These are innocent people who are suffering now.  Children, babies. Parents, the elderly. Hospitals and clinics where they might seek medical treatment have vanished into the debris.

The call has gone out to the world for help. As is usually the case in times of turmoil, America will lead the way in aid to Haiti. And President Obama has stepped up to pledge assistance from the American Government.

Still, it is often the private sector from which much of the aid comes. We are Americans… it’s what we do.

If you’re asking, “How can I help?” the following is a list of various organizations whose charters are to provide aid and comfort. I would advise you to look at each one before determining, for yourself which organization is likely to have the most direct impact on the people in Haiti who can only turn to the outside world in this time of utter need.

Click on the following links for more information on each organization:

International Medical Corps
Direct Relief International
World Vision
International Relief Teams
Yéle Haiti
American Red Cross
Operation USA
CARE
Catholic Relief Services
World Food Programme
World Concern
Save the Children
UNICEF USA

Keep the people of Haiti in your thoughts and prayers in this time of need and desperation.
