UPDATE: Is it possible that common sense will prevail? We can but hope…
So Pelosi wants to include “birth control” in the next stimulus package. (Or is it the package after that?)
Stimulus? There’s something missing here… I think we’re having a “fish and a bicycle” moment… How about personal responsibility relative to avoiding pregnancy right from the git go? Sounds to me like there’s already plenty of “stimulus” to go around.
Look… I’m 50 now, but once I was 20. Back then, I had zipoid for money and a crappy job pumping gas. (In retrospect, a “Do You Want Fries With That” paycheck would have been a big step up – at least I would have been warm and dry in a “McJob”.) Still, miracle upon miracle, I and my “more-than-friendly” contacts avoided the “punishment” of pregnancy without government “stimulus”. Yeah, I had to work an hour or two extra for a hearty box of “whoopee latex”, but I knew I had to do so as did the fair maidens I courted… In those days, no “whoopee latex” equated to no “whoopee”. Common sense contraception… Now there’s a radical idea.
Yeah, yeah, yeah… “Dealing” with unwanted pregnancies supposedly will save our republic countless millions. And there will always be times when youthful exuberance will overrun even the finest of intentions… But in 2009 (after all the money we’ve spent on sex education and free condoms in our schools) a rational person (even a young person) might understand that it’s all very simple — don’t screw around if you don’t have protection! And if you think that a single high school student doesn’t understand that, you’re a damned fool.
Why is it that people like Pelosi can’t see the cause through the result? The problem is that we as a society are not demanding that our young people use discretion and common sense in sexual matters – be it contraception, abstinence, or good old manual dexterity.
Ha! What am I thinking? Common sense and sexuality? Politicians in general?
Revelation upon revelation… They’re all missing the point.
