Michelle Malkin reports that in a press conference this morning, at least one reporter actually does his job and dares to ask President-elect Obama how he can reconcile his many previous statements about Hilary Clinton’s lack of qualification and his current plan to nominate her for the position of Secretary of State in his administration.
Boy, he really maunders on, doesn’t he? However, here’s the money quote:
“But, look, I think if you look at the statements that Hillary Clinton and I have made outside of the heat of a campaign, we share a view that America has to be safe and secure, and in order to do that we have to combine military power with strengthened diplomacy.”
Actually, part of that may be true. In fact, we all may share the view that America has to be safe and secure. But that doesn’t really answer the question posed by reporter Peter Baker about how Obama can explain away denigrating comments about ”having tea with heads of state,” among others, which caused such a stir at the time.
From the long campaign season, we already knew this, but what we can take away from this brief but telling conference is a reiteration of the understanding that the President-elect will (to paraphrase a far better man)
“…speak any words, offload any inconvenience, avoid any embarrassment, betray any friend, support any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of Obama.”
We would do well always to bear in mind what kind of man we have elected to be our next President.
