Lileks re-starts the Screedblog with a bang and a quick right jab to David Byrne.
I got an email from David Byrne. Since I signed up to get a free MP3 from his website, this means I am automatically simpatico to the portions of his worldview that do not involve moving fingers across the surfaces of strings and keys, and hence am eager to hear from him.

Some smart cookie at Fox News should sign this guy up for his own show. Zo on the election outcome, and plans for 2012:

In 2004 and 2008, well-credentialed liberals like Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Barbra Streisand, and Alec Baldwin promised they’d leave the country if GWB were elected. Sadly, they lied and all are still here, dribbling their occasional bile onto public airwaves. So where are all the high-profile Conservatives screaming to leave the country now? Oh, that’s right, there aren’t any. Conservatives are generally gracious winners and gracious losers. We are now the “loyal opposition” and will be acting with decorum and dignity. Right?

Jay Tea at Wizbang complains that nostalgia ain’t what it used to be. Amen to that. I miss platform shoes, myself…

Baldilocks has some interesting thoughts on what black Conservatives can tell their grandchildren, but the internal message applies to all of us:
Because if a candidate’s political, social and moral values are an anathema to a given voter but that voter chooses that candidate anyway solely because the voter shares race/ethnicity with the candidate and/or because of historical precedent, that voter has exchanged principle for emotion and for carnality. The voter has exchanged political, moral and spiritual values for pride of tribe (blacks) or to assuage tribal guilt (whites).
###
And speaking of tribes, I’ll leave you with a quote from one of Bill Whittle’s very best essays (and that’s saying something!), and of course you should read the whole thing.
Let’s not talk about Black and White tribes; I know too many pathetic, hateful, racists and more decent, capable and kind people of both colors for that to make any sense at all. Do you not? Do you not know corrupt, ignorant, violent people, both black and white, to cure you of this elementary idiocy? Have you not met and talked and laughed with people who were funny, decent, upright, honest and honorable of every shade so that the very idea of racial politics should just seem like a desperate and divisive and just plain evil tactic to hold power? …
Now, for the rest of you, let’s get past Republican and Democrat, Red and Blue, too. Let’s talk about these two Tribes: Pink, the color of bunny ears, and Grey, the color of a mechanical pencil lead.
