We Hope He’ll Change

 

Christopher Buckley. Susan Eisenhower. Christopher Hitchens. Dennis Hopper. And now, Colin Powell. All these people have at least one thing in common these days: they are part of a small spate of conservative-leaning public figures who have declared themselves for Obama. These freshly-minted Obamanoids give all sorts of reasons for their apparent change of hearts and/or minds. But all those reasons boil down to one thing, which Christopher Buckley eloquently and optimistically stated thusly:

But having a first-class temperament and a first-class intellect, President Obama will (I pray, secularly) surely understand that traditional left-politics aren’t going to get us out of this pit we’ve dug for ourselves.

Buckley prays (secularly, of course) that Obama will figure out that leftist politics don’t work and suddenly embrace a right-leaning agenda?  I really don’t see how any of these folks can expect Sen. Obama, if he is elected, to abandon the far-left policies and ”principles” he has embraced and advocated throughout his short, empty political career. Clearly, that’s the Change they’re Hoping for, but here’s a newsflash: it ain’t gonna happen. And when it doesn’t, you’ll have only yourselves to blame for falling for an engaging and eloquent empty suit.

Luckily for you all, your financial positions likely won’t be affected too much by Obama’s strategies. You  have accountants and tax people to tell you how to get out of paying as much of Obama’s “spread the wealth” policy as possible. That of course, leaves it up to the Joe the Plumbers to foot the bill for all the new tax-and-spend policies we’ll be seeing if The One is elected.

But all those Joes clearly don’t matter much to these folks. I wonder what does.
