Share the Wealth (Our Wealth, Not His)

 

Obama is promising that 95% of Americans will get a tax cut.

This suggests to me that — presuming I’m one of the 95%, and I think I am — my taxes will go down if Obama is elected and his plan is implemented. Sounds logical, doesn’t it? Tax cut = taxes go down, right? Not so fast, my friends. That’s not exactly what O means when he says “tax cut”.

What The One actually means is that he will issue tax “credits”. Great, so he’ll borrow money from us via our taxes, and then give some of it back to us and everyone (all 95% of us) else. Right? Sounds like a wash. I pay it, I get it back?

Not quite. It turns out that we will have to share that largesse with others. In fact, about 1/3 of all tax filers don’t pay anything at all (if you’re a regular reader of Grand Rants, you already knew that). So the other 2/3 — those who do pay — will pay more, so those who don’t pay anything can get a check in the mail, too. There’s a word for that… Oh wait, even Obama called it “spreading the wealth around.”

Obama is essentially saying, “Vote for me and I’ll send you a check.” I have two thoughts about that. The first is that anyone who is willing to bribe his way into high office is unfit for that office, and should be prosecuted. Unless he’s from Chicago, in which case it’s just called business as usual.

The second thought is that anyone stupid enough to vote for Obama in anticipation of getting a check in the mail certainly deserves Obama as a president, and when that promised check fails to show up (“It was Congress’s fault, they wouldn’t pass my tax bill”), just remember that you got what you voted for — and what you deserve.
